Two-time champion Novak Djokovic ‌has withdrawn from the Monte-Carlo Masters

Two-time champion Novak Djokovic ‌has withdrawn from the Monte-Carlo Masters, ‌tournament organisers said on Friday.

The 38-year-old Serb pulled out of the clay-court event after also withdrawing ‌from the ongoing Miami Open with a right shoulder injury.

Djokovic last competed at Indian Wells earlier this month, where he was beaten by defending champion Jack Draper in ‌the round of 16.

The 24-time Grand Slam winner captured ‌the Monte-Carlo Masters titles in 2013 and 2015.

Djokovic is next scheduled to compete at another clay ATP Masters 1000 event, the Mutua Madrid Open. The main-draw action in the Spanish capital takes place from April22 to May 3.

World No 7 Taylor Fritz also withdrew from the tournament due to injury as well as fellow American Ben Shelton.

Frenchmen Gael Monfils and Moise Kouame have received wild cards for the tournament, along with Stan Wawrinka and Matteo Berrettini.

Monfils, 39, and Kouame, 17, are at differing stages of their careers, with Monfils making his final appearance at the clay-court event, while Kouame is set for his debut.

Next Gen star Kouame won his maiden tour-level match at the ATP Masters 1000 event in Miami and broke ground at the ATP 250 event in Montpellier in February when he became the sixth-youngest man to qualify for an ATP Tour tournament since 2000.

The tournament will be held from April 5-12, with Carlos Alcaraz the defending champion with Jannik Sinner and Alexander Zverev in the field along with British No 1 Cameron Norrie and Jack Draper.
